Join Ruth and learn to make beautiful coiled fabric baskets incorporating an array of
different materials including fabric, threads, string and yarn while developing texture
and working with colour. You will learn the basics of coiling a basket, how to build, and
shape a basket.

Workshop includes: Fabrics, thread, cord and a needle (everything you need to create
a basket).
This class is suitable for students 14 years of age and over.
Optional equipment to bring: Students can bring along fabric scraps or threads from their own craft stash – these will need to be cut into 2cm strips ahead of time.
Skill level: all skill levels welcome from beginner to crafty experts!
Class cost: $70 per student.

MEET TEXTILE ARTIST RUTH WOODS

Ruth trained as a clothing designer, going on to work with textiles for 25 years. She has
a Diploma of Clothing Design, a Bachelor of Adult Learning and Development (Monash
University) and a Diploma of Visual Arts. Over the years Ruth has also taught many art
and craft related subjects at TAFE level.

She ran her own businesses manufacturing children’s clothes and offering freelance
design. Ruth is currently running her Craft School Oz business which is in its successful
fourth year. The school has delivered workshops all over Australia including Tasmania,
Melbourne, Sydney, Byron Bay and Cairns (to name a few) and in the UK and New
Zealand. During her many travels, Ruth spent eighteen months in Arnhem Land working
with the Indigenous people. She brings so much wonderful knowledge to her craft and
classroom.
