MEET ACCOMPLISHED MILLINER CATHERINE KELLY
Catherine is a Sydney Milliner and millinery teacher who is passionate about sewing, design, millinery, fashion and textiles and has received a number of notable awards for her creations. At the show, Catherine will teach a Studio Class on Friday click here for more information.
She learned to sew from her mother and grandmother at a very early age of whom were both experienced dressmakers and pattern-makers. Handsewing, embroidery and pattern-making are part of her DNA and she continues to study, learn, read and experiment at every opportunity.
Catherine is also an experienced and passionate teacher and studied to become a High School Textiles and Design teacher. She has taught in the UK, Queensland and Sydney from primary to high school and adult education. Catherine has been a teacher at Sydney Community College for almost 30 years and has organised all associated events from Millinery High Tea to fashion parades and pop-up stores. Teaching is an integral part of her skill base and she enjoys the interaction with students and passing on the skills of a rare trade. Catherine has also attended and taught millinery courses nationally and internationally.
As Vice President of the Millinery Association of Australia she and her team have been focused on establishing a national association, and the required due diligence around model rules, and establishing a national design competition.
